The brake pads, caliper, and a rotor - this is what constitutes the Acura MDX disc brake assembly. The caliper squeezes the brake pads in the direction of a metal plate, the rotor. This development generates friction, which in turn, slows down your car.

Your Acura MDX brake rotors are susceptible to deterioration, because of constant braking. All the force you built up by always hitting on the throttle is transformed into heat and friction; therefore, your car slows down and stops. This process is always applied on a daily basis, about countless times a day, be it a trip to the 24-hr convenience store or a road trip to another state.

Eventually, the continuous friction and heat generated by the brake pads compressing the rotors can thin down the metal exterior of the rotors, and with this, some problems can crop up. Resurfacing a rotor is one solution, however, only a minimal mount of metal can be scraped off a rotor.

Rotors like that of your Acura MDX brake rotors come with a “desired” thickness specification stamped on them. If the resurfaced rotors came out too “ thin “, it may not be able to stand the heat and friction generated when the brakes are utilized, and this often leads to brake fading.
