The spark plug, in appearance, looks deceptively simple. But spark plugs are not that uncomplicated, because they do the job of delivering a spark to ignite the air/fuel mixture found in the cylinder, along with removing heat from the combustion chamber. The spark plug is assisted by the spark plug wires, which can transport tens of thousands of volts to the terminal of the spark plugs every time.

| |
How do spark plug wires do the job? Starting at the plug, electricity moves to the other end of the plug, and then said electricity leaps some gap among electrodes to generate that spark to kindle the air/fuel mixture. Some plugs include an outer jacket to fend off high underhood temperatures and cuts, because high-voltage electricity is often on the lookout for easier paths to jump across, than say, a pair of electrodes in a spark plug.

If said outer jacket is harmed, the electricity may seep out to go after the easier trail. High-voltage electricity, in effect, can trigger radio waves, and as we all know, said radio waves can interfere with all kinds of vehicle systems, from radios to computers to sensors. See, problems can crop up with a seemingly simple length of solid wire.
