Your Acura CL primary function is to decrease the effects or impact of traveling over bumpy, coarse roads. Stiffer springs can control excessive suspension movement, but in turn, offer a harsh ride. Shock absorbers or shocks permit the use of soft or lower-rate springs while managing the percentage of suspension movement in reaction to the bumps.

At present, conventional designs of shocks are the mono tube and twin tube designs. The mono tube type is designed with one tube installed in an upside-down arrangement to reduce weight, while the twin tube type consists of an inner and outer tube that operate side by side.

Shocks work like this: they regulate the movement of the spring and the suspension completed, in the process of changing the kinetic energy generated by the suspension to heat or thermal energy, which is produced by means of the hydraulic fluid. Located at the end of a piston rod is a piston that operates with the hydraulic fluid on the car’s pressure tube.

With the up and down movements, the suspension pushes the hydraulic fluid to the small holes located inside the piston. But since the holes are small enough, the piston slows down, and with this, reduces the movement of the suspension and spring. The amount and size of holes in the piston are reliant on the resistance generated by the shock absorber. A suspension movement’s speed is also a big factor.
